Нидиа (интро, англ. версия)

Post by Ro#|# » Tue Apr 19, 2005 10:18 am

Twilight and Sunrise

Prologue

Nidia opened her eyes. She always enjoyed waking up and finding herself surrounded by darkness. It felt like getting back home after a long wondering.
She jumped out of bed with feline grace, making her muscles dance under her cream white skin, and found herself in front of the large mirror. Normal human beings could see nothing in such dark surroundings, but her vision was at its bets. It was just one of the advantages of being a priestess of the twilight.
She looked at the mirror. Raven black hair falling smoothly over her beautiful shoulders. Passionate reddish eyes showing subtle intelligence and tranquility. Thin lips having the colour of ripe cherry.
Nidia put a final finger to her uniform – black leather bustier, short skirt, gloves and high boots. She opened the drawer and took out a potion of black ink and a brush and highlighted the tattoo on her right cheek – the sign of the sisterhood of the twilight.
One more thing before she could go. She went to the bed and took a sheath dagger out of the pillow and attached it to the outer side of her thigh using a thong.
The streets were almost empty at that time. The cold wind made her regret not taking her cloak, but she concealed herself that it was only a short distance to her sister’s home. And, besides, few things could make her uncomfortable in the darkness prevailing in most of the town.
Someone was walking in front of her. A thin, gentle, petite silhouette that could belong only to a woman. Nidia could almost feel there was something about her that deserve special attention, but she could not figure out what.
Just as Nidia lost sight of the lady, she heard a cry that was quickly intercepted. The priestess approached dark corner from where the noise came.
“Easy, bitch. Let me take you to a place where I could see ya better. Hah, I bet ya gonna like it.”
Nidia gritted her teeth. No one had the right to use darkness to cause harm. It was a personal offence against any priestess of the twilight. She peeped and saw a brute pulling the woman into a ramshackle cottage. Nidia run into it as fast as she could.
Rolled in a ball on the dirty ceiling, the lady was shivering uncontrollably. The brute turned back and saw Nidia.
“What the….agh…my eyes!” The man stepped back rubbing his eyes.
“Next time you will know better than to attack helpless women. Stay calm or else I will cast blindness once more and you will remain in darkness forever. You, woman, go home and take care.”
The lady stood up with difficulty and waggled out, still unable to get over the shock. Nidia turned back to leave. She was halfway out and…suddenly she received a powerful punch in her head. She fell down. In an instant, strong arms were around her neck.
“Those simple tricks won’t help you against me. I let the other run away just because ya look more delicious, baby.”
Nidia slowly realized what had happened. The brute must have a mascot rendering him immune to level 1 spells. She tried to mobilize the last of her strength and to cast a more powerful spell, praying that this time it would work.
The man’s eyes widened with terror as he beheld the creature she had summoned. A great shadow of a winged beast with fire in his hollowly eyes. The brute tried to run away through the window nearby, but the shadowy gargoyle grabbed his ankle and nailed him to the ground. Immediately it stated scratching, tearing and biting him.
“Enough, Crad” Nidia hardly managed to whisper. No reaction. “I said enough, Crad…Crad…I banish you”
Nidia got out of the cottage, leaving the brute wailing in horror and pain. She still could not harmonize her breathing. Her throat was bleeding. But what confused her most was why the shadow gargoyle refused to conform to her order to cease the attack. There must be an explanation. She hoped that her sister of the twilight could give her the answer.
